Dec 28, 2017  Windows 7: Drivers not installing for Ethernet Controller. Install an Ethernet card so that you can get online, then do a Windows Update. Search for all updates, the 'important' ones and the 'optional' ones. If it finds an update for the onboard Ethernet, install only that one update, shut the computer down, remove the Ethernet card, then power on the computer. All these replies urging us to go to a website and download an updated ethernet controller driver are useless because you can't even access the internet without the ethernet controller, unless you have a second PC already hooked up to work with the internet.

Then make a copy of the ethernet driver, and then copy it onto the original PC to get it acces the intenet. Most people may have to go to a computer repair store and ask if they can buy the ethernet controller driver for their OS and PC on a CD or flashdrive, or instead, but an external Ehternet controller device and connect it to your PC via USB.

If you have a usb connector you can use that.
Once its recognized as hardware to install you'll
be able to connect to the internet & look for your
drivers. I had a similar situation and was able to
find all xp drivers except the ethernet for gateway.
At the moment I don't need it though. It takes a
while to make it show up on your pc, but in your
case im sure you'll be fine trying that outwhat brand and model computer?

I did some digging, and the ethernet controller is not a device, there is an adapter (probably wireless) that needs a driver. Lavalys' program Everest will tell you who makes the wireless adapter in your pc. If you can figure out who makes the wireless adapter on your own just install the drivers for it. Remember an 'ethernet controller' is not a device, it is a general useless description of a problem.Have to tried the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter drivers?

For this example, the adapter used is the Intel® Ethernet Connection X722 and Windows Server* 2016 as the base operating system.

1. Download the driver package for your Operating System. Driver and Software List
2. The EXE is a self-extracting compressed file and you can double-click the EXE you downloaded to automatically install the drivers and Proset software. For manual installation, continue to step 3.
3. Use your favorite Zip software to extract the files from the installation package you downloaded (either PROWinx64.exe or PROWinx32.exe) to a temporary location. Example: C:TempPROWinx64
4. Open Device Manager

   Right-click Start and click Device Manager OR run devmgmt.msc
   

5. Right-click the connection you want to update and choose Update Driver Software. If there is no driver installed for that device it will show up with a yellow exclamation and have a generic name such as Ethernet Controller.
6. Choose Browse my computer for driver software
7. Click Browse and go to the folder where you extracted the driver files. Make sure that Include subfolders is checked so that it will scan the entire driver set.
8. Click Next and it will start to install the driver software. Once installation is complete, it will show in the network adapters section.
9. Continue with the same process for any other adapters you wish to update by selecting the adapter from the list.
